STRONG Kids Research Course

This year-long supervised research course provides students with firsthand experience working as part of a research team with the STRONG Kids Program. Students develop a working knowledge of transdisciplinary research theory and applications and are provided with an overview of research program issues. Course participants also engage in:
- The development of oral and written communication skills, data management skills, team-building skills, critical-thinking skills, and professional work environment skills
- Training in mixed-methods research relevant to factors that contribute to child and family health
- Identifying opportunities and barriers in transdisciplinary teamwork
- Preparing a scientific presentation that reflects the knowledge of transdisciplinary science gained through working on actual research projects.

Every year students from the STRONG Kids Research course (HDFS 494) present their research findings at the campus's Undergraduate Research Symposium. This event takes place during Research Week at Illinois and features students studying in varied academic disciplines who share their research through presentations, posters, and performances.
