What is your research focused on now, and where do you see it going in the future?

I study how daily routines (family meals, sleep routines, media use, and parental work schedules) and stress affect children's health and well-being (obesity, hypertension, mental health, etc.).

I'm also part of a USDA multistate research team that studies how independent eating occasions in early adolescents are related to their obesity risk, relationships, and health, and how COVID has affected those eating routines.

What did you learn during your time at FRC as a postdoctoral research associate?

I learned so much in my time at the FRC. I got to work with Barbara Fiese and others, who trained me in the impact of daily routines and obesity research. I learned how to conduct my own studies and write IRB proposals and write grants for funding. I feel that those things each directly contributed to my ability to get tenure and a promotion recently. I am so grateful for everyone at the FRC that worked with me and helped contribute to my success as an independent scholar. It really built up my skills, confidence, and connections to have been there for three years.

What are your activities and interests outside of work?

I now live in Utah, so I spend time with my family hiking, exploring, fishing, riding ATVs, and enjoying snow activities in the winter. I am coaching my daughters in basketball and volleyball, and I have spent a lot of time playing sports and trying to travel when I can. I've been able to present my research in numerous places and have made it a point to take my family along when I can, so that we can see new places. I enjoy cooking and baking and woodworking.
